Nigerian Army Unveils 400 Housing Units for Injured Soldiers

The Nigerian Army has taken a major step to support injured soldiers by providing 400 housing units in Abuja. This initiative, launched under the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS), demonstrates the military’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel.

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, encouraged other branches of the Armed Forces to adopt similar projects. He emphasized the importance of providing housing for ratings and airmen, as decent housing ensures stability, security, and peace of mind for military personnel.

The project reflects the vision of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. T.A. Lagbaja, who prioritized the welfare of soldiers. Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the current Chief of Army Staff, was praised for continuing the initiative and expanding its reach.

According to Lt-Gen. Oluyede, the project supports soldiers’ dreams of owning suitable post-service accommodation. The 400 homes completed in Idu, Abuja, under Phase 1 of the AHOOAS project, were built in just 15 months and will house soldiers and their families.

The Army plans to extend the project to other locations, including Benin City, Ibadan, and Uyo. General Musa also called on state governors to allocate land for similar projects, ensuring soldiers can have homes in their home states or regions of choice.

General Musa noted that initiatives like these strengthen the bond between the military and civilians, foster development, and enhance national security. He praised the efforts of state governors who have already contributed land for the project and encouraged others to do the same.

This housing program highlights the Nigerian Army’s dedication to nation-building and the well-being of its personnel, ensuring soldiers have a secure future beyond their service years.
