The announcement was made on Monday night during an elaborate ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco. Football fans and experts across the continent celebrated the Atalanta forward’s achievement.
Lookman stood out among strong contenders, beating Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, PSG defender Achraf Hakimi, Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy, and South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to clinch the award.
The Nigerian winger had an unforgettable year. He made history by becoming the first player since 1975 to score a hat-trick in the Europa League/UEFA Cup final. Lookman’s incredible three goals were scored in just 26 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen, a performance that stunned the football world.
Beyond that, Lookman was named in the Europa League Team of the Year, a testament to his consistent excellence throughout the tournament. For Atalanta, he was directly involved in 18 goals in Serie A, further proving his value to the team.
