The Rivers State Police have successfully neutralized a dangerous cult leader and notorious kidnapper, Nkem ThankGod, also known as “2man.” The 42-year-old criminal was responsible for a series of brutal murders, including the deaths of four police officers, a couple, and a youth leader.
Nkem ThankGod, who hailed from Ogbologbolo in Ahoada West Local Government Area, was linked to numerous violent crimes. These included the killings of two Shell staff, a spare parts dealer, and several civilians. He was also known for leading the Greenlander Cult Group, which carried out kidnappings, extortions, and murders across Ahoada East and West LGAs.
The breakthrough came on December 5, 2024, when the Rivers State Police, acting on intelligence, intercepted ThankGod during an attempted kidnapping in Ahoada East. Although his gang members managed to escape with injuries, ThankGod was caught and neutralized during the operation.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, ThankGod’s criminal record includes the murder of the Youth President of Okogbe Community, Mr. Christmas Ede, in 2021, and the deaths of two officers from the Police Mobile Force in 2024. Additionally, ThankGod was involved in several kidnappings for ransom, carjackings, and attacks on police officers.
During the operation, the police recovered two AK-47 rifles, five magazines, and 22 rounds of live ammunition from ThankGod’s gang.
The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public that they remain committed to protecting citizens and dismantling criminal networks in the region. Efforts to apprehend the remaining members of ThankGod’s gang are ongoing.
