NYSC Praises Kwara for Demoting Teacher Who Assaulted Female Corps Member

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has praised the Kwara State Government for taking quick and fair action against a teacher who assaulted a female Corps member. The incident happened at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin. The teacher, Hajia Fatimoh Nike Hamzat, physically and verbally attacked the Corps member for allegedly not greeting her properly.

The Corps member reported the matter to the NYSC, which escalated the complaint to the Kwara State Government. In response, an investigative panel was set up to review the case. The panel, guided by Public Service Rules, recommended disciplinary action. As a result, the teacher was demoted.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, commended the panel for its professionalism and objectivity. He emphasized that Corps members are vital contributors to national development and unity and should always be treated with respect and dignity.

Ahmed reaffirmed the NYSC’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and safety of Corps members. He also encouraged Corps members to stay true to their Oath of Allegiance and continue serving the nation as good ambassadors of the Scheme.

This incident serves as a warning that the NYSC will not tolerate any form of abuse or mistreatment of Corps members. It also highlights the importance of ensuring a safe and respectful environment for those serving the nation.
