Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has criticized politicians who falsely claimed election victories on social media during the recent governorship election. He said these same individuals are now accusing others of rigging the polls.

The governor made this statement on Saturday at a homecoming reception in Esan Central Local Government Secretariat. The event was organized by the Esan people to celebrate his victory.

Governor Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to the people of Edo State for voting him into office. He also thanked the leadership of his political party, particularly President Bola Tinubu, for ensuring a fair and just electoral process.

He dismissed complaints from his opponents, accusing them of trying to manipulate the elections. “The people who wrote and shared fake results on the internet are now the ones crying about rigging. They are wasting their resources because their plans failed, and they will continue to fail,” he said.

The Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm Aidenojie II, also spoke during the event. He expressed pride in having an Esan son as the governor of Edo State. The royal father thanked other traditional rulers and the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, for supporting the governor’s ambition.

“We are happy to see this day become a reality. We believe Governor Okpebholo will deliver good governance and development to the people of Edo State,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo’s victory is seen as a milestone for the Esan people and a new chapter for Edo State. Many are optimistic about the positive changes his leadership will bring.
