Afenifere Leader Slams Obasanjo, Calls Him a Narcissist for ‘Baba Go-Slow’ Comment

Kole Omololu, the National Organizing Secretary of Afenifere, has reacted strongly to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comment calling President Bola Tinubu “baba-go-slow.” Omololu accused Obasanjo of being a narcissist who craves attention, criticizing the former president’s remarks as unnecessary and self-serving.

Obasanjo made the comment while speaking at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, where he described Nigeria’s situation as troubling. However, Omololu disagreed with Obasanjo’s views, stating that Tinubu has shown more promise in his short time in office than Obasanjo did during his presidency.

Omololu emphasized that Tinubu’s economic reforms have brought hope to the country, suggesting that Nigeria is now on a path toward recovery and growth. He pointed to the Nigerian Stock Exchange’s impressive performance in 2024, which saw a 39.84% increase in its All Shares Index, as evidence of the positive changes under Tinubu’s leadership.

In his statement, Omololu labeled Obasanjo’s criticism as “grandstanding” and accused the former president of constantly seeking attention. He also questioned Obasanjo’s credibility, pointing out that, unlike Tinubu, Obasanjo had struggled with managing his presidency effectively.

Omololu’s response sheds light on the growing tensions within Nigeria’s political scene and defends President Tinubu’s administration against Obasanjo’s critiques. It also highlights the contrast in leadership styles, with Omololu firmly supporting Tinubu’s approach to governance and economic reform.
