Today marks the final farewell to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, as he is laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

His remains, which arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday at 12:18 p.m., were received with great respect, signifying the start of his funeral rites. The ceremonies began on Thursday with a Service of Songs at Mogadishu Cantonment. The event brought together key security officials, family, and friends to honor his life and service.

Maj.-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, described Lagbaja as an exceptional leader whose qualities were evident even during his early days at the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Bilikisu Ibrahim, representing the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, spoke about his strong faith and unwavering commitment to his duties.

“He was a born leader who exemplified dedication and service. To honor his legacy, we must uphold the values he championed – the unity of Nigeria and unwavering service to the nation. He gave his all, and I hope we reciprocated enough,” Aligbe said.

Representing the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, Bilikisu Ibrahim highlighted Lagbaja’s steadfast faith and commitment.

“To those he served, he was a source of unwavering strength, a protector in the face of chaos and threats. Beyond his military duty, he was a man of profound faith, drawing strength from his spirituality to navigate life’s darkest battles,” she said.

Today, the nation joins together to celebrate the life of a dedicated leader and pay respects to a man who served his country with distinction. Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s legacy will be remembered by many.
