With the Ondo State governorship election set for Saturday, November 16, the family of the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has publicly endorsed Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Bamidele Akingboye.
During a press conference in Akure, Oluwafemi Akeredolu, a representative of the family, urged voters to prioritize integrity and development over political party loyalty. He emphasized that Akingboye is a leader dedicated to the progress of the state and its people.
“This is not about party politics; it’s about integrity and development. Akingboye has a vision for Ondo State, and he’s ready to use his personal resources to begin improving the state immediately after being elected,” Oluwafemi stated.
The family stressed that Akingboye’s approach reflects the values of accountability and genuine service. They believe his leadership will bring growth and development to Ondo State, a message that resonates with their late brother’s legacy of prioritizing the welfare of the people.
“Ondo State’s seaport is one of the deepest, capable of accommodating large vessels. My brother obtained the port certificate before he passed, but progress has stalled. Now, we’re being promised that it will be handed over to a foreigner. We can’t let that happen. Ondo State needs change, and that’s why we’re endorsing SDP and Akingboye,” he emphasized.
This endorsement puts the Akeredolu family at odds with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office after the passing of Rotimi Akeredolu and is contesting the election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As election day draws near, the Akeredolu family is calling on residents of Ondo State to vote for a candidate who will ensure the state’s future is secure and prosperous. Their message is clear: choose integrity, development, and vision over party lines.
