The Anambra State government is taking steps to make travel safer and more convenient by investing ₦489 million to install night-landing equipment at the Chinua Achebe International Airport. This development means the airport will soon support nighttime landings, making it more accessible for flights at all hours.
During the 34th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council, Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information, shared that this project will make a significant difference for both passengers and airlines. Currently, flights are limited to daylight hours, which can be inconvenient and restrict travel options. Night-landing equipment will allow the airport to operate later, providing more flexibility for travelers and airlines.
He stated: “The Anambra State Executive Council has adopted a series of measures, including the installation of Airfield Lighting at Chinua Achebe International Airport to facilitate night landings.”
The contract for this airfield lighting project, valued at ₦489,716,250, was awarded to Mercy Aviation Communication Electronics and Industries Nig Ltd. This company specializes in airport technology and equipment. The installation is expected to be completed within two weeks, enabling the Chinua Achebe International Airport to expand its operations soon.
Located in Anambra East Local Government Area, the Chinua Achebe International Airport is a critical hub for the region, and these improvements reflect Anambra State’s commitment to enhancing air travel infrastructure. Once this project is completed, travelers will benefit from more flight options, and the airport’s overall capacity will be significantly improved.
