Gombe Partners with Chinese Company for 100 Megawatt Solar Energy Plant

Gombe State has taken a significant step towards energy independence by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Railway 18th Bureau Group to build a 100 Megawatt solar energy plant. This project is part of the state’s plan to generate its own electricity, reduce reliance on the national grid, and drive economic growth.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed his excitement about the agreement, which follows previous discussions he had with China Railway executives in China. He noted that the MoU marks the beginning of a transformative project for the state, with the formal contract phase expected soon.

Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of local power generation, especially after power outages that affected Gombe and northern Nigeria. He highlighted that the newly passed Electricity Act allows states to generate, distribute, and market their own electricity, which will help reduce the dependence on the national grid and ensure more reliable power supply.

The solar plant is expected to provide clean, eco-friendly energy, create jobs, and attract investments. It will help ensure a steady supply of electricity for Gombe and contribute to the state’s long-term economic development.

Mr. Xue Dewen, General Manager of China Railway 18th Bureau, assured that his company is prepared to execute the project with the highest standards, in line with Governor Yahaya’s vision for energy independence and sustainable development.
