A tragic incident occurred at Obada Idi-Emi High School in Ogun State, where a student named Ariyo died after being punished by a teacher. The punishment involved 162 strokes of the cane, reportedly due to Ariyo breaking a dustbin in class.
The situation began when the teacher brought a dustbin to the classroom and instructed the students not to damage it. Ariyo jokingly responded that the dustbin was purchased with the students’ money, which angered the teacher. The teacher then reported Ariyo to the principal, who ordered that the student be punished.
After enduring the severe punishment, Ariyo collapsed. Unfortunately, there was a delay in taking him to the hospital, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
