In Lokoja, Kogi State, a tragic event occurred when a mentally challenged woman gave birth to a baby boy under the Ganaja Junction bridge on Monday night, October 21. Sadly, by the time help arrived, the baby had passed away.
Chukwuemeka Mohammed, a local social activist, shared the details of the heartbreaking situation. He explained that although he reached the scene as soon as possible, the newborn could not be saved. Mohammed has since urged the state Ministry of Environment to take steps to remove the baby’s body.
More importantly, Mohammed called for immediate assistance for the mother, who is in a vulnerable condition. She needs food, clothing, and medical care after this difficult and tragic event.
This incident brings to light the challenges faced by mentally challenged individuals who lack access to proper support. It underscores the urgent need for community involvement and government intervention to provide care and protection for people in such dire situations.
