The Edo State Police have announced the arrest of John Ochekwu Abraham for his alleged role in the murder of Usman Umaru, an Uber driver in Lagos. This news was reported by the police’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Joel Yamu, in a statement released on Sunday in Benin City.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abraham and another suspect, known only as Ahua or Soldier, were involved in a car theft that turned deadly. On October 11, 2024, they allegedly attacked Umaru at gunpoint, which resulted in his tragic death.
Abraham was captured during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by the Safer Highway and Okpella Division police in Etsako East Local Government Area. During this operation, officers discovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with 18 rounds of ammunition hidden inside the engine compartment of the vehicle they were using.
While police arrested Abraham, Ahua managed to escape. The authorities are continuing their investigation to locate the missing suspect and ensure he is brought to justice.
