A married man named Moses Remayi from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his girlfriend in a violent incident. The tragedy began when Remayi became angry because his girlfriend did not answer a call from an unknown number, which he suspected was from another man.
During the court proceedings, Remayi explained that his anger intensified when he called the unknown number and a man answered. This made him believe that his girlfriend was cheating on him, leading to a heated argument.
Witnesses described a horrific scene where Remayi attacked his girlfriend for nearly an hour. He locked the door to prevent anyone from entering while he continued to beat her with a steel chair, his fists, and his feet. A neighbor, Evidence Denhere, heard the victim’s screams and tried to intervene but could not stop Remayi because the door was locked.
After the assault, another neighbor, Cynthia Chaleka, discovered the woman severely injured and half-naked. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim succumbed to her injuries days later.
The police arrested Remayi and found the iron bar he used in the attack. In his defense, he claimed that the violence started after his girlfriend bit him during their argument, but the court did not accept his explanation. Justice Evangelista Kabasa of the Bulawayo High Court found Remayi guilty of murder, resulting in his 18-year prison sentence.
This senseless killing has shocked the local community, with many expressing outrage over the brutal attack. Remayi now faces nearly two decades behind bars for his actions, highlighting the serious issue of domestic violence.
