General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has congratulated former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as he turns 90 years old.
In a message shared by Major General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, General Musa praised Gowon for his leadership during tough times in Nigeria. He served as the Head of State from 1966 to 1975, a time full of challenges, yet he worked hard to keep Nigeria united and peaceful.
Musa emphasized that Gowon’s leadership and actions left a permanent mark in Nigeria’s history. One of his greatest achievements was his role in helping the country recover from the Civil War. His famous “no victor, no vanquished” speech after the war promoted peace and stability, which helped Nigeria grow stronger.
Beyond his time as a leader, Gowon has continued his good work through his charity, the Yakubu Gowon Foundation, which supports various humanitarian projects. General Musa highlighted how much the Armed Forces of Nigeria admire and respect Gowon’s lifelong dedication to peace and unity.
General Musa also mentioned that Gowon’s values of discipline, hard work, and patriotism still inspire many people in the military and beyond. On this special birthday, the Armed Forces send their best wishes for his continued good health and happiness.
