In a surprising turn of events, two 15-year-old students from Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School in Bauchi have been arrested for stealing a large number of items from a mobile phone shop in Wunti Market. The alleged theft occurred on October 1, 2024, when the boys reportedly took 100 mobile phones, 75 MP4 players, 30 cell phone batteries, 50 external memory cards, and a Bluetooth headset.
The Bauchi State Police Command responded after the shop owner reported the missing items. Following an investigation led by the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit, the police apprehended the suspects, Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu. According to police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil, the boys confessed to using a spare key to enter the shop and stealing while the owner was not present.
They sold the stolen items at lower prices and spent the money on personal items such as clothes and food. During the investigation, the police were able to recover 21 mobile phones, 5 MP4 players, a mobile phone charger, and a metal key from the students.
The police are continuing their efforts to recover the remaining stolen goods. Once the investigation is complete, the teenagers will be sent to a rehabilitation facility for their actions. This incident raises concerns about youth involvement in crime and highlights the need for community awareness and preventive measures.
