Recently, chaos erupted at the Niger State Government House in Minna, where around 4,000 political appointees gathered for a much-anticipated screening exercise. This event was meant to address their pressing salary issues, but it quickly turned into a scene of unrest.

The appointees arrived early Wednesday morning, eager to resolve their concerns over halted salaries. However, as the hours dragged on without any attention, frustration mounted. By 2:30 PM, many felt their patience had run out, leading to widespread agitation.

As tensions rose, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba stepped in to calm the crowd. He urged the appointees to remain patient and assured them that the screening would be conducted smoothly. Unfortunately, when the screening chairman, Kabiru Shehu Bacci, finally arrived, he faced severe backlash. The angry crowd booed him and almost attacked him, forcing security personnel to intervene and escort him to safety.

In conversations with DAILY POST, several appointees voiced their frustrations. They demanded immediate salary payments and a rescheduling of the screening exercise. Many expressed shock at how poorly they were treated after working hard to support the election of current leaders. Some even regretted their voting choices, feeling abandoned by those they helped bring to power.

Earlier in the day, Kabiru Shehu Bacci had issued a statement on behalf of the Niger State Government. He announced that the screening was set to occur at the government house and reminded appointees who hadn’t received their September salaries to attend the exercise. Bacci emphasized that the goal was to address the pending salary issues and listen to the genuine complaints of the appointees.
