The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently conducted a raid on private hostels at Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) in Sokoto. The operation occurred early in the morning around 4 AM, leading to the arrest of several students.

Reports indicate that the EFCC targeted hostels in the Kwakwalawa and Gidan Yaro areas, where numerous students were taken into custody. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with operatives entering the hostels and making arrests without discrimination.

As of now, the EFCC has not issued any official statement about this raid or the reasons behind the arrests. This incident mirrors a similar event reported in February, where EFCC officials raided hostels at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), resulting in multiple arrests. During that operation, students initially mistook the EFCC operatives for kidnappers due to the late hour.

The latest raid has raised concerns among students and parents about the EFCC’s methods and the impact on student life at the university. Many are calling for clarity on the situation and an explanation of the commission’s actions.

“The officials did not only destroy our properties, most of the students arrested were assaulted and brutalised. Even female students were assaulted.

“Adonai lodge, Celebrity lodge, peace apartment and others in Orita Obele, I’ll update you with more information later,” a source had told SaharaReporters.
