President Tinubu: “I Came to Work, Not to Make Money”

In a clear message about his intentions, President Bola Tinubu has stated that he is not in office to enrich himself but to dedicate his efforts to the betterment of Nigeria. This commitment was highlighted during a recent meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

“I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” President Tinubu said

The meeting was attended by 16 former presiding officers, including notable figures such as former Senate Presidents and Speakers of the House of Representatives. Led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, this gathering showcased the importance of leveraging experience and wisdom in governance.

During the meeting, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from these former leaders. He emphasized that, regardless of political differences, unity is essential for achieving Nigeria’s development goals. “We must work together to address our challenges and pave the way for progress,” he said.

“ Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here? What did we do when we had very high crude production? We neglected our communities; we neglected the goose that lays the golden eggs; we forgot even to give them a good standard of living.

We forgot to educate our children. Go round and look at the dilapidated schools. The education environment must be decent enough for pupils to want to learn.

We can complain from now till eternity that the school enrolment is low. But did we do anything to encourage the enrolment process? We must ask ourselves because it is a matter of conscience  ” he said

President Tinubu outlined his administration’s primary focus areas:

He emphasized the need to develop and enhance Nigeria’s infrastructure, which is crucial for economic growth and stability.

Ensuring that government finances are managed responsibly is a key priority. This includes tackling corruption and promoting transparency in public spending.

With the global shift towards renewable energy, Tinubu highlighted the importance of investing in alternative energy to secure Nigeria’s energy future.

Providing reliable energy sources is vital for both industry and daily life, and the administration aims to address existing energy challenges.

In his address, Tinubu encouraged the former presiding officers to share their expertise and insights into governance and nation-building. He believes that their experiences can significantly contribute to understanding and solving Nigeria’s current issues.

“We have come a long way, and I promise we will do our best,” he reassured the group, instilling confidence in his administration’s direction.

President Tinubu’s commitment to working for Nigeria’s progress instead of personal gain reflects a dedication to public service. By emphasizing collaboration among political leaders and focusing on critical issues, he aims to guide Nigeria toward a brighter future. With the support of experienced former leaders, his administration hopes to navigate the complex challenges facing the nation.
