The Kano State Government has officially declared Monday, 23 September 2024, as a public holiday. This day is set aside to honor the 7th day of Maulud Nabiy, a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, on Friday.
Maulud Nabiy, also known as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is an important event for Muslims worldwide. It serves as a reminder of the Prophet’s life, his teachings, and the legacy he left behind. The Kano State Government’s decision to observe this day as a public holiday allows the Muslim community to reflect on the values of the Prophet and to gather in celebration.
In his message, Governor Abba Yusuf urged Muslims to take this opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He reminded the Muslim Ummah that the Prophet’s message is timeless and serves as a guide for promoting peace, justice, kindness, and humility in both personal and communal life.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the Prophet’s teachings offer a beacon of mercy and righteousness. These values, he stressed, should be practiced in everyday life as they are essential for personal growth and community harmony.
The governor also pointed out the importance of following the Qur’an and Sunnah, especially in today’s world where moral and social challenges are prevalent. He encouraged Muslims to look to the Prophet’s character as a model of integrity, honesty, and service to humanity.
As the state and nation face challenges, Governor Yusuf encouraged the Muslim community to use the Maulud Nabiy celebration as a time for prayers. He urged them to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity, not just in Kano, but across Nigeria.
