UCL: Why I didn’t play Salah in 2-0 defeat to PSG – Arne Slot

Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot has explained why he did not use Mohamed Salah during their 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Salah was left out of Liverpool’s starting lineup for the first leg of the quarter-final match played on Wednesday night.

PSG took control of the game by scoring one goal in each half through Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Even when Liverpool needed a goal to get back into the match, Salah remained on the bench and was not brought on at the Parc des Princes.

After the match, Slot said his decision was based on the situation of the game, as his team was more focused on defending than attacking.

He explained that bringing Salah on would have forced him to spend the final minutes defending deep in their own half, which was not the best use of his energy.

Slot added that Salah’s quality is important, but he preferred to keep him fresh for upcoming matches in the busy weeks ahead.
