Why I dumped APC – Enugu party chieftain, Ambassador Eze

A former senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North, Ejike Eze, has explained that he left the party because of poor teamwork and unfair sharing of benefits.

Eze, who once worked as a diplomat and served former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said the APC in Enugu State lacks unity and does not follow proper democratic practices.

He made this known while speaking to journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, adding that he did not gain anything from being a member of the party.

According to him, there was no fairness, justice, or equality in how opportunities and benefits were shared within the party.

He also claimed that after the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, joined the APC, the original party members were pushed aside and no longer valued.

Eze further alleged that politicians who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC took over leadership positions at all levels, leaving long-time APC members who had invested heavily in the party without any reward.

He recalled that in his resignation letter dated March 30, 2026, he described the happenings in the party as undemocratic and unacceptable.

He said leaving the party was a difficult decision, but he had to do so after carefully reviewing the situation of the APC in Enugu State.

Eze added that he remains committed to his political goals, which are based on democracy and improving the welfare and dignity of his people.

He also revealed that he still plans to represent Enugu North in the National Assembly and that some political parties are already reaching out to him.

He complained that people from Enugu North Senatorial District are being sidelined in state politics despite their large population.

He stressed that his people deserve fairness, respect, and equal share in government benefits and political appointments.

He gave an example, saying the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) should have gone to Enugu North, but it was given to another zone by Emma Enukwu, and the governor failed to correct it.

Eze criticised the lack of communication between political leaders and the people, saying leaders must stay connected with citizens to make democracy work properly.

He said he personally struggled to reach key officials like the governor, the Chief of Staff, and even a minister from the state despite several attempts.

He questioned how ordinary citizens would be able to reach leaders if someone with his level of experience could not.

He warned that leaders who claim to support President Bola Tinubu may face poor election results if they continue to ignore the people.

Eze stated that Enugu North has grown politically and now demands respect and inclusion in decision-making.

He said politicians seeking support from his people must engage with them and ensure fairness in sharing positions and benefits.

He added that stakeholders, including community leaders and citizens, should decide who represents them in elections.

He warned that the people of Enugu North will not accept election rigging or forced candidates in the 2027 election. He concluded by saying that the people of Nsukka must be allowed to freely choose their leaders and that any attempt to impose candidates will be strongly resisted.
