EFCC arrests ‘fake’ football agent over alleged N11m scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin has arrested a man, Osagie Destiny Etinosa, for allegedly scamming someone out of N11 million while pretending to be a football agent.

The EFCC revealed in a statement that the suspect was tracked and arrested using online intelligence methods.

According to the agency, Etinosa used his Instagram page to present himself as a football agent who helps players secure trials and contracts with foreign football clubs.

In one case, he reportedly collected N11 million from Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, promising to arrange football trials for him in clubs in Romania and Bulgaria, but failed to deliver on the promise.

The EFCC repeated that the money was collected with the assurance of securing trials abroad, which never happened.

The victim tried several times to get his money back but was unsuccessful.

The commission confirmed that all attempts by the victim to recover the funds failed.

The EFCC added that the suspect will soon be taken to court to face charges.
