Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has explained why he joined other top politicians in a protest held in Abuja against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday night.
During the protest, Obi was seen alongside key political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal. They carried banners of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a protest tagged “Save Our Democracy.”
The protest followed INEC’s decision to recognize the party leadership led by David Mark.
Obi later shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), saying he joined other Nigerians and members of the ADC, led by David Mark, in a peaceful protest to defend democracy.
He explained that the protest was not only about protecting democracy but also a time to reflect on the current state of the country and how things have declined.
Obi added that Nigerians must stand against attempts by some leaders to weaken democracy, especially those who once claimed to fight for it but are now suppressing opposition voices.
He warned that history will judge those who abandoned democratic values for personal power. He stressed that Nigerians will not keep quiet, will not be afraid, and will continue to fight to ensure that the people’s voice is heard and respected.
