The United States has reportedly launched another attack on Kharg Island, just before the deadline earlier set by former President Donald Trump.
Earlier reports from Iran’s Mehr News Agency claimed that joint US-Israeli strikes had hit the country’s key oil export terminal on the island.
According to a US official, the latest operation focused on military facilities located on Kharg Island.
The strike happened only a few hours before the deadline given by Trump for Iran to meet his demands or face serious military consequences.
Trump had earlier warned that severe destruction could occur if Iran failed to reach an agreement, stating that the situation could become catastrophic.
He also suggested that ground troops could be sent in to take control of important oil facilities on the island if needed.
Reports on Tuesday continued to indicate that the attacks targeted major oil export infrastructure on Kharg Island.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency said several explosions were heard in the area following multiple strikes by what it described as US and Israeli forces.
In addition, journalist Barak Ravid of Axios reported on X, quoting a US official, that the strikes were aimed at military targets on the island located off Iran’s western coast.
