Niger Assembly mourns Kebbi Speaker, Mohammed Usman Ankwai

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly and Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, has expressed grief over the death of Kebbi State House of Assembly Speaker, Mohammed Usman Ankwai.

In a statement released in Minna by Acting Head of Media and Public Relations, Ruqayyah M. Tanko, Sarkin Daji called Ankwai’s death shocking and deeply saddening.

He praised the late Speaker as a “true gentleman,” an accomplished legislator, and a selfless leader whose work in advancing governance and development in Kebbi State will be remembered.

Sarkin Daji also noted that Ankwai’s passing is a loss not just to Kebbi State but to Nigeria’s legislative community, highlighting the Speaker’s experience, dedication, and service.

He offered condolences to the people and government of Kebbi State, the leadership and members of the state House of Assembly, and the immediate family of the deceased.

Praying for God’s forgiveness and eternal rest for Ankwai, Sarkin Daji encouraged the family to take comfort in the lasting legacy and positive impact he left behind.

The Kebbi State Speaker passed away in the early hours of Tuesday after battling an undisclosed illness.
