Abducted victim escapes in Niger as bandits kill cyclist, detonate IEDs

One of the four family members kidnapped in a recent attack in Baban-Rami has managed to escape from the abductors.

The victims were identified as Suwaiba Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, Khadija Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, Fatima Sahabi Abdullahi, and Nafisa Sahabi Buba Abdullahi.

A source told security analyst Zagazola Makama that Nafisa Sahabi Buba Abdullahi successfully got away, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining family members safely.

The kidnapping came after the family head, Alhaji Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, was shot dead by suspected armed bandits.

In a related incident, armed attackers reportedly set off improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along a bypass road near a damaged bridge in the Luma National Park forest area.

Sources said that the bandits also killed a cyclist on the road, and a truck driver travelling to Wawa accidentally ran over another IED, causing an explosion that damaged the vehicle. The truck driver’s current condition or location was unknown at the time of reporting.

Security forces, including special tactical units and local vigilantes, have been deployed to the area to track down and apprehend the attackers.
