Russia evacuates 198 workers from Iran nuclear plant amid airstrike

Russia has started evacuating its workers from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant after a recent airstrike hit close to the facility. According to Russian officials, 198 workers were transported by bus toward the Iranian-Armenian border shortly after the incident. This marks the largest evacuation so far.

The Bushehr plant, located in southern Iran along the Gulf coast, was built with support from Russia. Reports say this is the third time workers have been evacuated from the site since tensions escalated. Around 100 Russian staff are still said to remain at the plant for now.

Iranian state media confirmed that the latest strike did not damage the nuclear facility itself, but one security guard was killed. However, concerns are growing about the safety of the plant, as the surrounding area has reportedly been hit multiple times during the ongoing conflict.

Russia’s nuclear agency warned that the risk of a nuclear-related incident is increasing. Officials said they had informed both the United States and Israel about the evacuation in advance. For now, only a small number of essential workers will remain at the site.

Meanwhile, Russia’s foreign ministry strongly criticized the attack and called for an immediate halt to strikes near nuclear facilities, warning that continued actions could lead to serious consequences.
