Kebbi 2027: ADC, PDP mull alliance to stop Gov Idris’ second term bid

Political activities are gradually heating up in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties explore ways to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress. Reports indicate that the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party are considering forming an alliance to strengthen their chances.

The proposed coalition is seen as a strategic move to confront Governor Nasir Idris, who is expected to seek a second term. Political observers believe the opposition cannot effectively challenge the APC’s dominance without joining forces.

Sources reveal that internal challenges within both ADC and PDP have made collaboration more attractive. The ADC, in particular, has been dealing with restructuring issues, which have affected its grassroots mobilisation across the state.

A key figure in the ongoing discussions is Abubakar Malami, whose political influence remains significant. Analysts suggest his involvement could boost the opposition’s chances, although concerns about leadership control and power-sharing persist.

Despite these efforts, the APC has dismissed the alliance talks as weak and unrealistic. Party supporters insist that the ruling party still enjoys strong grassroots backing and remains firmly in control of the state’s political structure.

However, some analysts believe the 2027 race could still be competitive if the opposition resolves internal differences. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether the ADC-PDP alliance becomes a real force or remains just a political discussion.
