How suspects kidnapped three-day-old baby in Nasarawa

Police in Nasarawa State have successfully rescued a three-day-old baby boy who was kidnapped from his mother’s home. Two suspects have also been arrested in connection with the incident.

The police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, shared the details in a statement released on Thursday.

According to him, the baby’s mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada, who lives in Unguwan Bako near Orange Market in Mararaba, reported the case on March 29. She told the police that unknown people broke into her house and took her newborn baby.

Nansel explained that the incident happened on March 28 around 11:50 am. While the young mother was sleeping with her baby in an unfinished building on the outskirts of the area, two men entered the house, threatened her, and took the child away.

It was also revealed that her husband, Abubakar Isah, who works as a tricycle rider, had been away in Lagos for about five months for business.

After receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, ordered detectives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and begin a full investigation.

Acting on useful information, police officers carried out an operation around 4 am on Thursday. They arrested two suspects — 35-year-old Furera Abdulrahman and 39-year-old Sadiya Abdullahi — and found the missing baby with them.

During questioning, the suspects admitted to committing the crime and also mentioned another person who helped them but is still on the run. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect.

The rescued baby was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where doctors confirmed he was healthy. After that, he was safely returned to his parents.

The police also said the case will soon be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation after initial checks are completed.

Finally, the Nasarawa State Police Command assured the public that they are committed to protecting lives and property. They also advised residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
