David Mark To Tinubu: You Have Over 30 Governors In APC, What Are You Afraid Of?

Former Senate President David Mark has questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as fear of opposition, despite the ruling party’s strong political control.

Speaking as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mark said it was surprising that the government would still feel threatened even with majority support across the country.

At a press briefing, Mark criticized recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which removed some ADC leaders from its official portal.

He said this move suggests an attempt to weaken opposition parties and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.

Mark warned that democracy in Nigeria is under pressure, especially when citizens begin to lose key freedoms like the right to choose leaders, participate in politics, and freely associate.

According to him, these rights are essential, and without them, democracy cannot survive.

He also accused the government of trying to limit political competition ahead of the 2027 elections. Mark claimed that rising poverty and insecurity are signs of poor governance, and that leaders may be trying to hold onto power because they fear being voted out.

Directly addressing the president, Mark asked why there should be any fear of a fair election when the All Progressives Congress (APC) already controls most governors and the National Assembly. He urged Nigerians to stay alert, speak up, and protect democracy.
