Zelensky urges EU to confiscate Russia’s oil

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the European Union to take stronger action by confiscating Russian oil as part of efforts to weaken Moscow’s war resources.

He argued that targeting Russia’s energy sector would significantly reduce its ability to finance ongoing military operations and put pressure on its economy.

According to Zelensky, existing sanctions are not enough, and more decisive steps are needed to bring an end to the conflict and limit further destruction.

The European Union has already imposed several restrictions on Russian exports, especially in the energy sector, since the war began.

However, confiscating oil assets could raise legal and economic concerns, as some member states remain cautious about the broader impact on global energy markets.

The proposal highlights Ukraine’s push for tougher international measures, as the war continues to reshape global politics and economic alliances.
