Abia Govt confirms arrest of Nigerian Army personnel after medical offer by Gov Otti

Abia State government has addressed the arrest of Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, who was promised medical support by Governor Alex Otti last week. The soldier was reportedly arrested over a past fraud allegation, according to military sources.

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, explained that the medical support was offered on compassionate grounds, as has been extended to other citizens and security personnel.

The government confirmed that Sergeant Amoke sustained an injury while serving in Abia State, and an NGO had brought him to the government for assistance.

Ekeoma stated that the arrest followed due diligence requested by the State government, which may have prompted the military’s action against the personnel.

The Abia government reiterated its support for legitimate disciplinary actions by the Nigerian Army while pledging to continue providing medical, financial, and humanitarian aid to citizens in need.

The statement emphasized that the controversy does not change the government’s commitment to helping victims of misfortune, including security personnel and civilians.
