2027: ADC zones chairmanship to Benue North West amid agitation for Idoma governor

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State has zoned its state chairmanship to Zone B amid growing calls for an Idoma governor ahead of the 2027 elections. The move aims to maintain political balance within the party and address internal agitations.

The zoning followed recommendations from a seven-member committee set up by the State Working Committee to ensure fair distribution of State Executive Committee positions across the three senatorial districts.

Under the arrangement, Zone B received the State Chairman and Organizing Secretary posts, while Zone C got the State Secretary position, with other key roles distributed evenly across Zones A, B, and C.

The committee emphasized equity, inclusiveness, and coalition balance, ensuring each zone secured six positions, while ADC retained at least 30% of the executive offices as directed by the national leadership.

Party analysts say allocating the chairmanship to Zone B, the Idoma-speaking area, could strengthen the bloc’s influence and calm internal tensions ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.

State Chairman Hon. Celestine Orbunde urged members to embrace unity, noting the zoning was designed to promote fairness, representation, and internal democracy across the party.
