Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo of the FCT High Court in Abuja has allowed a UK-based Nigerian, Emmanuel Opeyemi Makinde, to testify virtually in a marriage scam case.
The court scheduled Makinde’s online testimony for May 7, 2026, following a motion filed by the Inspector-General of Police.
The trial involves travel agent Waliyu Aderibigbe Shitta, accused of arranging a fraudulent marriage for Dolapo Afusat Yusuf to facilitate her travel abroad.
The complainant, Makinde, could not attend in person due to his residence in the United Kingdom, prompting the court to approve remote participation.
During the proceedings, the Investigating Police Officer, ASP Monday Onoja, stated that the defendant could not provide the alleged marriage certificate, claiming it was deleted from office records.
The Nigeria Police had contacted the British High Commission to obtain the document but had not received a response as of the court hearing.
