Nigerian youths gathered at the Lagos State House of Assembly to demand justice over an alleged assault incident linked to a festival in Ozoro. The protest was driven by outrage over disturbing reports circulating online.
The demonstrators, under the “End The Rape Culture” campaign, called for urgent action from authorities. Many expressed concern about the safety of women and girls, stressing the need for accountability.
Rhoda Robinson, Executive Director of the Hacey Health Initiative, described the situation as deeply troubling. She said the issue reflects a wider societal problem beyond just one incident.
Robinson noted that victims of such crimes are often silenced or blamed, making it difficult for justice to be served. She emphasised that many cases go unreported due to fear, stigma, and pressure from society.
She also referenced past cases like that of Ochanya, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of young girls. According to her, many victims continue to suffer quietly without support or justice.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials, including Aina Adesola, have visited the area to assess the situation. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to investigate the allegations and address concerns raised by the public.
