Former Peter Obi has criticised Nigeria’s development focus, urging greater investment in women as a strategy for national growth.
Obi shared his views on X, highlighting that countries like Indonesia and Bangladesh successfully leverage women’s economic contributions, while Nigeria lags behind.
He noted that women in Indonesia own over half of SMEs generating most jobs, and in Bangladesh, women dominate the garment sector, producing tens of billions annually.
The former Anambra State governor emphasised that women, who make up more than half of Nigeria’s population, remain underutilised in leadership, education, and economic roles.
Obi warned that misplaced focus on trivial matters undermines meaningful national development and weakens economic progress.
He called for policies that integrate women into critical sectors, enhance education, and boost leadership inclusion to strengthen Nigeria’s economy and global standing.
