The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has directed shipping lines and their agents to immediately suspend recently approved tariffs, following consultations with key stakeholders.
The council said the move aims to address concerns over the timing, structure, and potential impact of the new charges on port users and logistics operations.
NSC emphasized the need to safeguard fair competition, transparency, and sector stability, halting the tariff implementation until all stakeholders are aligned.
Operators are instructed to revert to the previous tariff system, with any deviation considered a compliance breach punishable under the law.
The NSC spokesperson highlighted that the priority is to protect cargo interests and maintain an efficient, equitable maritime transport system for all users.
The suspension will remain in effect until consultations and a regulatory review are completed, after which the council will communicate a definitive position.
