The Nigerian Correctional Service has issued a warning to the public about fraudsters using its identity to deceive unsuspecting victims. The agency said criminals are circulating fake documents and making false claims in its name.
In a statement signed by J.N. Osuji, the service revealed that scammers are distributing a document titled “Payment/Mobilisation Request Form.” The form is allegedly used to trick people into paying money for non-existent contracts.
The NCoS made it clear that the document is fake and did not come from the agency. It stressed that all its operations follow strict government procedures and transparency in procurement processes.
According to the service, it does not request or accept upfront payments, mobilisation fees, or any financial inducement from contractors or individuals. Any such demand should be treated as suspicious and fraudulent.
The agency also disclosed that impersonators have been posing as senior officials on social media platforms. These fraudsters often promise fake contract opportunities and direct victims to pay money into private accounts.
The NCoS advised the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police Force. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens from fraud and maintaining integrity.
