A tragic accident occurred along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in the Sangotedo area of Lagos, leaving two people dead. The victims, a driver and his assistant, lost their lives after a violent collision triggered a gas explosion.
Reports indicate that the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when a speeding tipper truck rammed into a stationary gas truck. The impact led to a massive fire outbreak that quickly spread across nearby structures.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that emergency teams responded promptly. Firefighters from multiple stations were deployed to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
According to officials, the fire extended to nearby warehouses and roadside shops. Several vehicles, including buses and cars, were destroyed in the incident before the flames were brought under control.
Authorities also noted that a fuel station and a tanker carrying petrol were successfully protected from the fire, preventing an even larger disaster. The driver of the gas truck reportedly escaped without injuries.
Emergency responders later began clearing the wreckage and restoring normal traffic flow. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority urged drivers to maintain caution and avoid reckless driving to prevent similar tragedies.
