The Borno State Government has issued a security alert to residents of Maiduguri ahead of Eid al-Fitr prayers. Governor Babagana Zulum urged citizens to remain vigilant following intelligence of possible attacks in the city.
Governor Zulum revealed that security agencies have received reports of two potential suicide bombers operating in Maiduguri. Residents were advised to be cautious and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
The warning comes amid ongoing military operations against insurgents in the state. Zulum explained that terrorists under pressure often target soft locations to create panic and disrupt normal life.
“Such attacks are often used as diversions when terrorists are weakened in their strongholds,” the governor said, highlighting the adaptive tactics of insurgent groups.
Despite the looming threat, Zulum expressed confidence in the capacity of security forces. He assured citizens that enhanced security measures have been deployed to protect the city during the festive celebrations.
The governor urged residents to enjoy the festival safely while cooperating with security agencies. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance to complement government efforts in maintaining peace.
