Maiduguri Bombings: Two states responsible for terrorism in Northeast Nigeria – CDS

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has identified residents of Borno and Yobe States as largely responsible for terrorism in the Northeast. He made the remarks after arriving in Borno following recent bombings.

General Oluyede said ending terrorism requires local ownership, noting that many perpetrators come from these states and urging communities to help prevent attacks.

“There has been an upsurge in attacks in the Northeast within the last month. For us to end this terrorism, the people of Borno and Yobe must take ownership of the problem,” he said.

He added that some attackers involved in recent bombings were locals, highlighting community complicity and the need for collective action to stop violence.

Vice President Kasim Shettima visited victims of the Maiduguri bombings, which killed 23 people and injured over 100 others, demonstrating government concern for affected families.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed service chiefs to move to Borno State to assess security and ensure stronger measures against terrorism in the region.
