Kim Jong Un claims landslide victory with 99.93 percent of vote in North Korea’s election

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has announced a near-total victory in the country’s latest election, with his party reportedly securing 99.93% of the votes. The results have raised concerns globally due to the tightly controlled nature of the voting process.

Reports indicate that the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea and its allies won all 687 seats in the Supreme People’s Assembly. Voters were given only one candidate to approve or reject, leading to an almost unanimous outcome.

Authorities claimed a turnout of 99.99%, showing how strictly the process is managed. The election, held on March 15, was to select representatives for the new parliamentary session in Pyongyang.

A major highlight of the vote is the large political reshuffle, with over 70% of deputies being new members. Analysts believe this move allows Kim to replace older officials with more loyal figures within his leadership circle.

Key figures such as Kim Yo-jong and Choe Son-hui were elected, strengthening Kim’s inner circle. Meanwhile, veteran leader Choe Ryong-hae was removed from key roles, signaling shifting power dynamics.

The upcoming session is expected to reaffirm Kim’s leadership and may introduce constitutional changes, including redefining relations with South Korea. Observers say this could mark a significant shift in the country’s political direction.
