Nigerian singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, has expressed frustration over his low earnings from streaming platforms. Despite releasing music every month and having fans abroad, he claims his revenue remains too small.
In a recent video, Portable lamented that Apple Music revenue is divided into 17 parts, leaving him with minimal income. He noted that although Nigerian streams are cheap, he also has listeners in the United States and other countries.
The Zazu crooner called on renowned music executive Don Jazzy for guidance on increasing his streaming revenue. Portable said that learning from Don Jazzy could help him earn more and become bigger than other Nigerian artists.
Portable’s outcry highlights the challenges Nigerian artists face in monetizing music globally and the need for strategies to maximize earnings from digital platforms.
