Strait of Hormuz: Details of Trump, Starmer telephone conversation emerge

Donald Trump and Keir Starmer held a telephone conversation on Sunday to discuss the growing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The discussion focused on the disruption of global shipping and the need to restore safe passage in the area.

According to the office of the UK Prime Minister, both leaders spoke about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and how the closure of the vital waterway is increasing global shipping costs. They stressed the importance of reopening the route quickly to stabilize international trade.

During the call, Starmer also expressed sympathy to the United States over the loss of its soldiers during the conflict. The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact as the situation continues to develop in the region.

In a related move, Starmer also spoke with Mark Carney about the same issue. Their conversation focused on the wider impact the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is having on international shipping and global supply chains.
