Rising fuel prices increasing hardship for Nigerians – IHRC

The International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust has raised concern about the steady rise in fuel prices in Nigeria, saying the situation is making life more difficult for many citizens. The organisation warned that the increasing cost of petrol is adding to the economic pressure already faced by ordinary Nigerians across the country.

In a statement released by the Country Director, Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, the group explained that the rise in fuel prices is leading to higher transportation fares and increased food prices. According to the organisation, this situation has significantly raised the general cost of living for families and small businesses.

The commission also noted that many Nigerians find it confusing that fuel prices keep rising despite the country being a major oil producer. It stressed that citizens expect the country’s natural petroleum resources to bring economic relief and shared benefits to the population.

The organisation therefore urged leaders and policymakers to respond quickly to the issue. It also called on the National Assembly of Nigeria to carefully review the situation and introduce measures that will reduce the hardship faced by Nigerians.
