Guard Attached to Emir of Zamfara Killed in Bandits’ Ambush on Mayanchi–Anka Road

A member of the guard unit attached to the Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello has reportedly died following an ambush by armed bandits along the Mayanchi–Anka Road in Zamfara State.

The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon when suspected bandits targeted members of the Emir’s traditional guard, locally known as Dogarai, while they were travelling along the highway.

Details of the incident were shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine, who said the gunmen opened fire on the entourage during the ambush.

One of the guards, identified as Jamilu—known for carrying the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella during official outings—reportedly sustained gunshot wounds during the attack.

He was rushed to Gusau General Hospital for medical treatment but later died from his injuries.
“This tragic incident once again shows the growing insecurity along our highways and the dangers faced daily by citizens,” the security analyst said.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain comments from police authorities in the state were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The incident underscores persistent security concerns across highways in Zamfara State, where residents and travellers continue to face threats from armed bandit groups.

For years, several communities in the state and across Nigeria’s North-West have endured repeated attacks, kidnappings and ambushes linked to bandits operating in rural and forested areas.

Security analysts and residents have repeatedly called for stronger measures to safeguard travellers and local communities.
