Tinubu met what can be described as a foamy economy – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited what he described as a “foamy economy” when he assumed office in 2023. Akpabio made the remark in Abuja during the inauguration of a committee for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to Akpabio, the current administration met serious economic challenges and had to introduce major reforms to stabilise the country. He noted that the National Assembly remains committed to supporting policies aimed at improving Nigeria’s economic situation.

The Senate President highlighted key decisions taken by the government, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates. He said these steps were necessary to stop financial leakages and help strengthen the economy.

Akpabio also pointed to tax reforms introduced by the government to boost revenue from the non-oil sector. He added that the reforms have increased allocations to states and may have contributed to recent defections of opposition politicians into the APC.
