Cybercrime: Indian police arrest two Nigerians over bank hacking

Authorities in India have arrested two Nigerian nationals over their alleged involvement in a cybercrime operation targeting financial institutions. The suspects, Modebe Joseph and Sunday Okonkwo, were apprehended in Noida during a coordinated police operation.

According to investigators, the two men were allegedly linked to an international hacking group known as Solar Spider. The group is believed to focus on financial institutions with weak cybersecurity systems.

Police officials said the suspects may be part of a wider criminal network operating across several countries. Authorities believe the group has connections with cybercrime networks in Nigeria and South Africa.

During the investigation, officers revealed that about ₹7 crore—nearly ₦1 billion—was allegedly transferred from a targeted bank account over a weekend. Investigators say the timing was likely chosen because banks were closed, which could delay the discovery of the unauthorized transaction.
