Enugu clan protests alleged grabbing of ancestral land

Residents of Umuene in Amigbo village, Ishi-Ozalla community in Nkanu West Local Government Area staged a protest over the alleged takeover of their ancestral land. The protesters, who are descendants of Nwafor Ogbodo Nwachi, accused a man identified as Mike Onu of unlawfully claiming ownership of the family land.

During the demonstration, community members marched through parts of the area carrying placards demanding that the alleged land grabbing stop. They also called on the Enugu State Government to intervene and protect what they described as their inherited property.

Speaking during the protest, Dr. Modester Chekwube Muoneke said the family noticed the disputed development on the land in 2025. She claimed the accused entered the property with armed men and began construction without presenting valid ownership documents.

However, Mike Onu denied the allegations, insisting he lawfully acquired the land and possesses the necessary documents. He added that the matter is already before the court and declined to comment further while legal proceedings continue.
